Q&A with Emily Falkus

Why did you choose to specialise in family law?

Family law has always felt like my natural home within the legal sector.

I started my first paralegal job in December 2013 and on my first day, was sent to the Royal Courts of Justice. I have never looked back. Family law is deeply personal to those it impacts and challenging but incredibly meaningful to me.

How do you approach working with clients?

I want to ensure that I understand my client’s perspective so I can advocate for them in the best possible way. Every case and client is different. The emotional history of a case often dictates how a matter will progress and what the best route for a client will be.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Whilst it might sound like a predictable answer, my favourite part about my role is helping people.

Tell us something not many people know about you?

I was on the front page of the Surrey Advertiser when I was younger. I was volunteering with an important Guildford based charity which helps vulnerable women in the local community.

What is the scariest thing you have ever done?

I travelled across America using the Greyhound bus when I was 18. It is not a mode of transport for the faint of heart!
